What is BT.CX?
BT.CX, often referred to as BTCX, is a Swedish Bitcoin exchange that has been operating since 2012, making it one of the oldest crypto exchanges in all of Scandinavia. The platform takes a minimalist approach: you can buy Bitcoin with SEK, and that is essentially it.
There are no trading charts, no altcoins, no staking features, and no margin trading. BTCX is purely a buying service for Bitcoin. You deposit SEK via Swish or bank transfer, buy BTC, and either keep it on the platform or withdraw to your own wallet.
This extreme simplicity is both its strength and its limitation. For users who only want Bitcoin and nothing else, BTCX removes all unnecessary complexity. For anyone wanting more features, Safello or Trijo are better options.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- + Operating since 2012 — longest track record
- + Extremely simple interface
- + Swish and BankID support
- + FI-regulated
- + Bitcoin-focused philosophy
Cons
- − Highest fees among Swedish exchanges
- − Bitcoin only — no other cryptocurrencies
- − No trading features
- − Limited functionality
- − No credit card option
Fees
BTCX charges 1-3% per transaction, making it the most expensive among Swedish exchanges. For small purchases, the convenience may justify the cost. For regular or larger purchases, Trijo (0.25-0.75%) offers much better value while maintaining Swish support.
Verdict
BTCX is the right choice if you want the absolute simplest Bitcoin buying experience on a platform with the longest Swedish track record. It is also appealing to Bitcoin maximalists who prefer an exchange that does not promote altcoins.
However, the high fees are hard to justify when Trijo offers the same Swish and BankID experience at a fraction of the cost. We recommend BTCX primarily for users who value its 14-year history above all else.
